Thank you Slashdot, for your review (3 years after the release of the book)!
My Job Went to India is at this very moment (but probably not by the time you’re reading this) the number one best seller in Amazon’s India travel books category.
I’ve always wanted to write a travel book. Today I get the sensation of having written one without having to go to the effort.
But seriously, it’s been fun to watch the reaction on Slashdot, well known for its high level of discourse. Sadly, everyone except the reviewer (thanks Josh!) is caught up in the India part. My fault, I know. It’s not really about India or outsourcing. It’s about building a remarkable career.
It’s not about trying not to lose. It’s about trying to win.
I think we’ll have to fix this perception problem in the near future.

If a second edition, with a better title, is what you’re alluding to, I think that’s a great idea.
IMHO, it is a fantastic book, but the ultra-timely “angle” and the timeless careeer advice are an awkward pairing.

I agree with Joe. The book is awesome, the title is awful. I’ve recommended it to a number of people, and the first thing I say is “don’t be put off by the title. it’s really a great book”.

Hi Joe and Dave, that is indeed what I’m alluding to. It’ll be more than a new title, though. Some new content and new focus as well. Thanks for the kind words and constructive criticism!

Hi Chad! Long time no talk. Well shucks…even though I’m not quite a developer, I may need to purchase your book after all. The other shoe fell at my company. We were bought last year by a private investment firm and they have decided to outsource. I’m hoping they’ll keep me because I’m one of those people who have business knowledge. We will all find out by February. Or maybe I can just cut and run and try to come up with a way to get paid for my mad roller derby skillz. That’s right- I said roller derby. You can just call me Akilles Wheel from now on!

Hi Chad,
Its certainly a great book. As you said “My fault, I know. It?s not really about India or outsourcing. It?s about building a remarkable career.”... but still you selected India and not any other growing and upcoming economy and that made an impact and managed to create strange expressions on almost everyone I guess, whether American or Indian(me included) or else.
The best part of the book was “Don?t Put All Your Eggs in Someone Else?s Basket”
